SHAMELESS PLUG FOR SPEAKING PHAIRLY
A.J. Michel has done a terrific personal narrative about growing up with Liz Phair in a special one-shot zine, Speaking Phairly. The zine covers five years from the release of Exile In Guyville (1993) through the release of whitechocolatespaceegg (1998). Incidentally, Speaking Phairly is actually a special insert to her zine Low Hug (issue #2). To order a copy of Speaking Phairly, send $1 to: Speaking Phairly c/o A.J. Michel, Station A, P.O. Box 2574, Champaign, IL 61825-2574. For more details, contact A.J. Michel. [Thanks to A.J. Michel for publishing Speaking Phairly, Meredith Robbins for telling me about Speaking Phairly, and Marcelle "Betty Boob" Karp for reviewing Speaking Phairly in Bust magazine.] |

AN EVENING WITH...
The anticipated new album from Liz Phair is tentatively scheduled for release in the spring of 2000 (may I remind you of those many delays for her third album). An album title has also been given: An Evening with... As for the recording information, Liz was in Los Angeles recording with her touring band and is currently recording without a producer. Liz plans to continue this process until she has completed the album's basic tracks. Some of you might be asking, "What are some of the song titles?" Well, to whet your appetite, here are a few titles:

Hi, it's me. Just thought I'd drop in. I'm sitting in my friends office at DreamWorks and thought I would check out wha's going on on the net. Luke just wrote that part. Now it's really me. That faker. MIND FUCK MIND FUCK. I did not know all this stuff was on here. Do you wanna hear some new lyrics? I'm making demos in L.A. Here's a section from My Mistake:
I saw John, he looked so sad
I want you to know that I feel bad for not making our dreams come true.
we had so many dreams, me and you.
I want you to know I love you.
You're my favorite thing from the past,
and all of those nights we spent together,
I never had such a blast....
Anyone could tell you were my instrument, he said, I understand you.
You want to play me.
my mistake was thinking I'd already made it.
I wanna make a leap of innocence to you.
Good bye.
Liz

Liz Phair to record new material? |
LIZ BACK TO RECORDING?
In a JamTV interview, Liz Phair announced intentions of recording new material. Here is an excerpt from that interview: "...I'm writing so much. It's kind of beautiful dark stuff. It's funny, but after I put out whitechocolatespacegg it was like another step to not being afraid to say the dark, more disgruntled things. A lot of it has to do with revolving around when I have free time. I'll kill myself because I stay up too late. Late night I love writing. I think I'm going to start recording this month. I have the bug bad, very bad." For more of that interview, check the JamTV website. |
