More to come...

Executive producer Carol Barbee says the Swingtown writing team was able to complete six scripts in varying stages before the strike hit, so the show could conceivably resume production quickly if the strike is resolved sooner rather than later. The total network order for the show is 13 episodes and boasts a musical score by Liz Phair, a longtime buddy of the creator. "Liz came up with the main title sequence," says Barbee. "We want to throw out this feeling that a party is going on, come to the party! There's a huge amount of optimism and warmth as these characters try to feel their way through situations, try to find excitement in their lives. In my heart, I know Swingtown is a really good show."

2. Liz Phair's "Perfect Misfit on Nancy Drew: Music From the Motion Picture
(Bulletproof Records)
Don't know whether Emma Roberts' movie is going to get the 'tween set into theaters (and honestly, I doubt I'll be there in person to find out), but this new Phair offering is the first terrific summer song of 2007, as catchy and breathy and hard-headed as you'd want from a Liz tune.

[Ben] Lee will be the subject of a career-spanning documentary due to hit the film festival circuit in 2008. The as-yet-untitled film is directed by Amiel Courtin-Wilson and includes interviews with Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, Liz Phair and Mike Watt, as well as film personalities such as Winona Ryder, Claire Danes and Michelle Williams.
Ben Lee's new album, Ripe, is due in stores September 4th.

"Divorce Song" Liz Phair
"Divorce Song", which appears on the Liz Phair's 1993 debut, Exile in Guyville, could just as easily have been called "All Over But The Shouting". It's not so much about apologizing for something specific. And unlike the other songs in this list, this lyric has no mention of the words "apologize" or "sorry". Rather, "Divorce Song" is about feeling generally sorry for the things that happened in a relationship and the way it all turned out. Sure there's accusation in the words: "It's true that I stole your lighter / And its also true that I lost the map / But when you said that I wasn't worth talking to / I had to take your word on that." But the singer willingly shares the burden of blame with the subject. These days, how often do you get that?
As Jason Long so aptly put it: "...if you feel so inclined, please vote for her."

Minnie Driver's second album of original material Seastories will be released by Zoλ / Rounder on July 10th, 2007. The twelve new songs were written by Driver and in addition to her ethereal vocals and lush guitars, feature performances from Ryan Adams and his backing band The Cardinals, indie queen Liz Phair, keyboardist Rami Jaffe (The Wallflowers / Foo Fighters), producer / guitarist Marc 'Doc' Dauer (Pete Yorn) and Zack Ray (Gnarls Barkley). Seastories was mixed by recent Grammy winner Jim Scott (Dixie Chicks / Lucinda Williams / Tom Petty).
"Sorry Baby" is an affectionate apology to a heartbroken lover. The singer laments "I wish I could fake what you want". Liz Phair's backing vocals are unmistakable in this mellow rocker.

"Head Case"
Meet cutting edge therapist Dr. Elizabeth Goode (Alexandra Wentworth, "In Living Color," "Office Space," "Seinfeld"). She's brash, unconventional, judgmental, but undeniably thriving as the "it therapist" to Hollywood's maladjusted celebrity elite. Boldly brandishing her own unique mental insight and technique, Dr. Goode's days have rapidly become filled with a literal "who's who" from the world of entertainment, sports and music.
Dr. Goode shares office space with Freudian shrink Dr. Myron Finkelstein (a side-splitting turn by Steve Landesberg, "Barney Miller") who stalks the waiting room in a desperate attempt to resurrect his own floundering practice. In session, receiving the "Goode treatment" are Rick Fox, Tom Sizemore, Alanis Morrisette, Jason Priestley, Ione Skye, Sean Hayes, Ralph Maccio, Jane Kaczmarek, Jennifer Finnigan, Andy Dick, Shelby Lynne, Rich Eisen, Jonathan Silverman, Liz Phair, Fred Willard, and Willie Garson.

Fire Breaks Out At Prestigious High School
(CBS) WINNETKA, Ill. A small fire broke out early Thursday in the basement of New Trier High School in Winnetka.
Firefighters responding to an automatic fire alarm at the high school, at 385 Winnetka Ave., found a small blaze in the basement.
By 5:50 a.m., the relatively small but smoky fire had been extinguished, but Winnetka Avenue was shut down from Green Bay Road to Sheridan Road.
By 6:15 a.m., students and faculty were beginning to arrive. Electrical crews were working to ensure that the nearby power grid is safe, although power was still on in the building.
Students and faculty are asked to follow directions by authorities and go to the school auditorium. Classes are expected to be held as usual.
New Trier High School serves the North Shore suburbs of Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Glencoe and Northfield. The prestigious school is known for numerous famous alumni, including actors Charlton Heston, Virginia Madsen, and Hal Sparks, musician Liz Phair, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and journalist Walter Jacobson.
The Winnetka school, or New Trier East serves sophomores, juniors and seniors, while a Northfield campus, or New Trier West, serves freshmen.
